Mobility Assist Program for New Nissans

Nissan Announces New Mobility Assist Program for New Vehicles

Nissan announced the introduction of Nissan Mobility Assist, which aims to support the mobility needs of physically disabled customers. Nissan will offer up to a $1,000 reimbursement to have qualifying adaptive equipment installed on new Nissan vehicles to accommodate a physically disabled driver or passenger.

For existing leases through Nissan Motor Acceptance Corporation (NMAC), the following types of adaptive equipment have been pre-approved: hand controls, wheelchair/scooter lift, left foot accelerator and turning automotive seating. The adaptive equipment must be installed by a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)-registered installer after the vehicle has been retailed and within six months of purchase or lease from an authorized Nissan dealer.
"Nissan Mobility Assist allows us to further broaden the appeal of an already diverse product lineup and truly live up to our corporate motto of 'innovation and excitement for everyone,'" said Fred Diaz, divisional vice president, Nissan Sales & Marketing. "By helping defray the costs of medically necessary upfits, we're increasing the mobility of our customers nationwide."

Requests for reimbursement must be made within 90 days of the equipment installation by a NHTSA certified installer. Requests may be made via the "Nissan Mobility Form" online and applicable claim documentation may be submitted via fax at (888) 912-2409, or via email atnissanmobilityassist@biworldwide.com. Reimbursement will then be provided to the customer within six to ten weeks after all of the required paperwork has been received by Nissan.

Riding the frog-faced Godzilla lightning

REPRINT OF CAR AND DRIVER'S STORY ON
the Nissan Juke-R
Riding the frog-faced Godzilla lightning.
BY SAM SMITH

Question: When is a Nissan GT-R not a Nissan GT-R? Answer: When it's a fat-fendered piece of lunacy with the face of a Nissan Juke. In other words, when it's a Nissan Juke-R.

There are currently two Juke-Rs in existence: one is left-hand drive, the other right-hand drive. Both are powered by a modified version of the 3.8-liter, twin-turbo V-6 found in the 2011 Nissan GT-R. Both were commissioned by Nissan Europe and built by British motorsports house RML Group. Nissan's Japanese brass reportedly didn't know the cars were being assembled until the first construction videos found their way to the internet. Some 2.3 million YouTube views and a scant 22 weeks later, the world was gifted a 485-hp, two-ton, 5.2-foot-tall monster. Forum fanboys pissed themselves.

Allow us to blow your mind: Nissan claims the Juke-R will bolt to 62 mph in 3.7 seconds.

Allow us to blow your mind again: We have reason to believe that figure is pessimistic.

It takes no small amount of wrench pimpery to stuff a GT-R's powertrain into a crossover the size of a bento box. The rear seats are gone, replaced by an FIA-compliant roll cage. Gone, too, are the Juke's original floor, firewall (a new one lives 3.9 inches to the rear), and headliner. The V-6 supports both air conditioning and power steering; and save for a shortened driveshaft, much of what's here are showroom-ready Godzilla bits. The wheelbase, the length, and the height are shared with the ordinary Juke, but composite fender flares cover 20-inch wheels, stiffer springs and dampers, and the GT-R's wider track. The whole mess looks Animal Planet deadly, like a 'roided-up gibbon or psychotic puffer fish. (Fugu-R?) It is glorious.

We flew to Dubai to drive this beast. After five Nissan-policed, stability-controlled laps around the 2.7-mile Dubai Autodrome, the silly-metaphor well ran dry. Nitrous-powered bar stool? Sure. Chrysler Building with a Saturn 5 suppository? Why not? Loony doesn't even begin to describe it.

The chassis is neat, much like the Manhattan Project was neat. Who knew science could make such violence? There's grinding understeer under throttle in slow corners, neutral drifts in fast ones, impossible grip, body roll out the wazoo. Go deep into the surprisingly soft brake pedal, the back end hops around. High-speed turn-in is abrupt enough to make your coccyx itch. Crosswinds, sneezes, and butterfly wing flaps in China make the Juke's tall body twitch and bob. Still, it's fast, predictable, and remarkably approachable. Nissan claims the top speed is a drag-limited 160 mph, which is 31 mph lower than that of the GT-R, a vehicle that is not shaped like mobile teratoma.

Nissan says the Juke-R's suspension is set up for street use, but we weren't allowed off the track, so that's anyone's guess. It also says, amazingly, that a production R is under consideration-rumor has it several sheiks tried to buy the cars brought to the Middle East, but sheiks will buy anything. No matter. Much like Dubai, the Juke-R is a tangible fantasy, a fancy confection whipped up from thin air and dreams. It exists because it's awesome, and that's good enough for us.

The REDBOOK Auto Awards

The REDBOOK Auto Awards - NISSAN'S TOP THE LIST

Cars are usually judged by men, for men. No more! Two of the top 9 top picks are Nissans, packed with perks the guy gearheads might have overlooked. Of course we care about safety, gas mileage, and cost-but let's be real: We also need good light for putting on makeup and a way to keep the kids from kicking the back of our seat. These are the cars that women will want.

The high-tech helper
2013 Nissan Altima

Pricing: Starting at $21,760 for a 2013; a 2010 will run you just over $14,000.

We love it because: The built-in gadgets are also useful. We're all for advanced technology, as long as it's not too geeky to be practical. The 2013 Nissan Altima, which has surprisingly cutting-edge technology for a car at this price, solves all kinds of problems for you: like, the headlights automatically go on when you turn on the windshield wipers. And the car will alert you when you veer from your lane or another car enters your blind spot. And lastly, there are the new "zero-gravity" bucket seats: Designed with help from NASA research, they feel (almost) like you're driving along suspended in midair, which nixes aches and fatigue from long hauls.

The relationship saver
2013 Nissan Pathfinder

Pricing: Starting at $28,650 for a 2013; a 2010 is just under $19,000.

We love it because: Nobody wants to break up over the car. The Pathfinder keeps the peace. Here's why: You can get memory settings for exterior mirrors, driver's seat, steering wheel, and audio/navigation settings. This means your husband will quit grumbling when he has to drive after you with your "short little legs." The seven-passenger SUV also has the option for separate temperature and audio controls for the front and back seats, so there's no more fighting over the air or the music.

The top 10 Reasons to get into the 2014 Versa Note

The top 10 Reasons the 2014 Nissan Versa Note trounces the Chevrolet Sonic, Ford Fiesta, Honda Fit, Hyundai Accent, Kia Rio, Mazda2 and Toyota Yaris

As the all-new 2014 Versa Note, the global follow-up to Nissan's highly popular Versa hatchback, gets set to do battle in the increasingly competitive U.S. entry-level subcompact segment, it has the numbers on its side. Here are just a few examples:

1. 31, 35, 40. Leading, as in class-leading, the new Versa Note's standout attributes is its 40 mpg highway fuel economy.* Note also offers best-in-class** 31 city mpg and 35 mpg combined city/highway fuel efficiency.

2. Double-down. Of all the numbers surrounding Versas Note's smooth, responsive powerplant - 1.6 liters, 109 horsepower, 107 lb-ft of torque, 4 valves per cylinder - perhaps the most impressive is the 57 percent smaller fuel droplet size provided by the standard dual fuel injector system (versus conventional single injector systems). The pair of smaller injectors delivers a finer spray and wider injection of fuel to help achieve more complete combustion.

3. Leave the lineman on the curb. More weight is a good thing if you are a player in the National Football League, but not so great when designing a vehicle for fuel economy and driving responsiveness. The 2014 Versa Note features an estimated 300-pound weight reduction versus the previous generation design. It's the equivalent of kicking an NFL lineman out of the front passenger seat. Just hope he finds another ride.

4. Squash the competition (and drag). Lose the lineman, gain a squash player. In keeping with the sports theme, the unique side view of the new Versa Note body is marked by a highly distinctive character line.
Inspired by the trajectory of a squash ball hitting a wall, bouncing on the floor and returning to the player, this "rebound path" line projects the dynamic energy of Versa Note, whether on the road or standing still. The squash line is just one of many carefully crafted aerodynamic elements - including a large front spoiler, kick-up roof and underbody shaping - that gives Versa Note a coefficient of drag of 0.298 (CVT-equipped models). Game on.

5. Shutter Your Mouth. Among the many Versa Note class-exclusive*** features is the available Active Grille Shutter, the first ever used on a Nissan vehicle and the only one offered in the segment. By reducing the amount of air entering the engine compartment (generally at speeds above 20 miles per hour), it helps reduce aerodynamic drag - contributing to the overall nine percent lower coefficient of drag versus the previous Versa hatchback design.

6. Vented, Not Venti. Look closely at the new Versa Note's 370Z-style "boomerang" taillights and you'll see something quite unusual - a series of four thin openings on the flared outer lip. A world's first production design, the vented taillights help reduce wind turbulence around the back of the vehicle. The resulting smaller vortex helps keep the rear of the Versa Note clean, improving rear lamp visibility in bad weather.

7.Heads Up, Legs Out. Of all the best-in-class*** ways to judge the new Versa Note by, here are a couple you can get your head (and legs) around - the most front row headroom at 40.8 inches and the longest rear seat legroom at 38.3 inches, which is nearly four inches (3.7 inches) longer than the nearest competitor (34.6 inches). And just so that ample front room doesn't go to the driver and passenger's head, Versa Note offers available heated front seats to take care of the other extreme.

8.Turn Up the Volume. One of car designers' greatest challenges has always been making a small car big. The all-new Versa Note takes the previous generation design and stretches the envelope inside - while maintaining Versa's compact footprint. On the same wheelbase as the previous generation, the 2014 Versa Note features ample cargo volume of 18.8 cubic feet (rear seat up), best-in-class*** passenger room of 94.1 cubic feet and total interior volume of 112.9 cubic feet.

One other thing, to make it easier to enter and exit the spacious interior, there's a 20 percent increase in the degree of door openings (from the prior generation).

9. The Great Divide ('N Hide). If the incredible lifestyle flexibility provided by the new Versa Note's large, accessible hatchback - "Your Door to More" - wasn't enough, there's one more special feature designed to assist owners' active lifestyles. The innovative Divide-N-Hide® Adjustable Floor balances the sometimes conflicting needs of a flat cargo floor and maximized cargo space. The system's large split-folding floor board can be used to create a flat cargo area floor (with the standard 60/40 rear seat folded down), or to provide a hidden cargo storage area. With the floorboard tucked away (you never have to remove it from the vehicle unless you want to) it opens up a deep cargo well for carrying taller or bulkier items.

10. Bird is the word. Yet another affordable, class-exclusive*** technology found only on the new Versa Note in the segment is Nissan's advanced Around View® Monitor. The system utilizes four small superwide-angle cameras mounted on the front, side and rear of the vehicle to provide a "bird's eye" virtual 360° view of objects around the vehicle. Offered as part of the SL Tech Package, it provides additional selectable split-screen close-ups of the front, rear and curb views, helping the driver maneuver the car in or out of tight spots.

11. Connect the spots. When looking for the hottest parking spots in town in which to try out the Around View® Monitor, Versa Note's advanced NissanConnect? with Navigation System makes it easy - thanks to its POIs powered by Google™ and Google™ Send-to-Car features. With more than five million points of interest at the ready, it's easy to find or send directions to clubs, restaurants or other locations.

But the affordable NissanConnect? with Navigation System doesn't stop there.  It also includes a 5.8-inch color touch-screen display, NavTraffic and NavWeather real-time advisories (SiriusXM subscription required, sold separately), Hands-Free Text Messaging Assistant, Streaming Audio via Bluetooth®, Pandora® radio capability (iPhone® only). And, when it comes to navigation, the system also incudes warnings for curves, speed limit information and an eco route setting.

12.Easy Come, Easy Fill. While every 2014 Versa Note comes with a standard Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), the SL Package adds Nissan's reassuring Easy Fill Tire Alert system - which takes the guesswork out of filling a low tire with a beep of the horn and flash of the lights when you've reached the correct pressure.

13. $13,990. The last number might be the most impressive - the 2014 Versa Note's starting Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (M.S.R.P.) of just $13,990 USD****. Following the standard set by the high-value Versa sedan, the new Versa Note offers more value on all grades than the previous Versa hatchback (model year 2012).

HOW TO “SUMMERIZE” YOUR CAR!

HOW TO "SUMMERIZE" YOUR CAR!

Summer is a time for casual day trips to the beach, family vacations to the mountains, and just plain cruising down the highway with friends. But summer heat, dust, an increase in stop and go traffic, an even the cumulative effects of winter time driving, can begin to take its toll on a vehicle that hasn't been properly maintained or conditioned for the hot, dry summer months. Conducting regular inspections and making the necessary repairs and periodic maintenance will lessen the odds of future mechanical failure.  It will also prolong the life of the vehicle as well as increase its re-sale value.  It really should become an annual event for any car owner because of the tremendous upside when it's done regularly and properly. Some of the inspection and repairs are simple procedures and can be performed fairly easily by do-it-yourselfers.  Others are not and should be handled only by a qualified mechanic.  Owners should know what they are capable of handling and what they are not.  A good way to get started is by reading the owner's manual and following manufacturer's recommended service schedules.
When those summertime temperatures start climbing, drivers find relief by cranking up the air conditioning. Keep in mind that a system that's operating only marginally is likely to fail in hot weather, so it should be evaluated by a skilled and qualified technician.  Unless you know your way around these units, leave this to the professionals.

OVERHEATING

One of the most frequent causes of summertime breakdowns is overheating.  To prevent this from occurring, the cooling system should be completely flushed and refilled every 24 months, and the levels, condition and concentration of the coolant should be checked periodically.  Generally, a 50-50 mix of anti-freeze and water is recommended.  The strength and condition of drive belts, clamps and hoses should also be checked, and they should be replaced if found to be loose or cracked.

OIL

Regardless of the season, oil and oil filters should be changed in accordance with specifications in the owner's manual, however, every 3,000 miles is a good rule of thumb, particularly for those who make frequent short trips, extended trips with cargo, or tow a trailer.  In addition, engine performance can be improved by replacing air, PCV and fuel filters, and by correcting starting and idling problems when they are first noticed.  Don't put them off.

GLASS

Dirty windshields can cause eye fatigue and reduce visibility, creating a safety hazard.  Replace those worn wiper blades and check to make sure there's plenty of wiper fluid in the reservoir to clean the windshield when necessary.

TIRES

Tire pressure is a frequent cause of flats and blowouts and therefore should be checked at least once a month.  Always make sure the tires are cooled down before checking, and rotate them about every 5,000 miles to ensure even wear.  And when inspecting tires, don't forget to check the spare for tread life, uneven wearing and cupping.  Be sure the jack is in good working condition and that all the parts are there.

BRAKES

For the safety of everyone on the road, brakes should be checked as recommended in the owner's manual, but sooner if pulsations, grabbing, noises, or longer than usual stopping distances are noticed.  Even the slightest brake problem should be corrected immediately.

BATTERY

A car or truck battery can fail at any time and the only way to accurately detect a weak one is with a battery tester, which most auto service centers offer.  Routine battery care involves scraping away corrosion from the posts and cable connections, cleaning all surfaces, re-tightening connections and, if the battery caps are removable, checking fluid levels monthly.  It's always a good idea to wear protective gloves and eyewear when working around batteries.

LIGHTS

To improve night vision, as well as visibility, inspect all head and tail lights and bulbs, replace burned out bulbs, and periodically clean out dirt and insects from the lenses.

EMERGENCIES!

And finally, put together an emergency kit with basic tools, first aid kit, flares and a flashlight.  Make sure all seat belts are in proper working order and children's safety seats are installed in accordance with manufacturer's guidelines for size, weight and age.  And if trouble should occur on the road, help is usually never far away for those with a cell phone.

Pathfinder wins 10 Best Family Cars list

Edmunds.com, Kelley Blue Book and Parents Magazine all agree - the 2013 Nissan Pathfinder is the winner!

2013  PATHFINDER is now  #1 on KelleyBlueBooks' 10 Best Family Cars list, plus 10 Best Family Cars by Edmunds.com and Parents Magazine.

The reinvented 2013 Nissan Pathfinder was named to the top spot on the list of 10 Best Family Cars of 2013 from Kelley Blue Book's KBB.com. The 2013 Nissan Altima also made this year's cut of KBB.com's top family-friendly vehicles. Each year, editors at Kelley Blue Book's KBB.com, the leading provider of new and used car information, develop their list of the 10 Best Family Cars based on characteristics that cater to unique family specifications and situations.

"The Pathfinder and Altima were both completely redesigned to enhance the driver and passenger experience with a bevy of technology and styling upgrades that satisfy the needs of the entire family," said Jon Brancheau, vice president, Marketing, Nissan North America, Inc. "The marketplace has embraced the new direction of these vehicles, and it's a tremendous honor to be recognized by Kelley Blue Book for our achievements in making Pathfinder and Altima two of the most family-friendly vehicles on the road today."

The 2013 Pathfinder represents a new synthesis of comfort and utility for this iconic, 27-year-old nameplate, with a more refined unibody construction providing a civilized ride yet maintaining best-in-class standard towing capacity of 5000 lbs. Kelley Blue Book's editors also recognized the vehicle's improved ride quality, better handling and best-in-class highway fuel economy of 26 mpg. Technology played a big role in Pathfinder's award as well, with KBB.com praising features such as available Around View® Monitor with "bird's eye" view, which the outlet claims is "among our favorite features in existence."

The all-new fourth-generation Pathfinder seats up to seven passengers comfortably and boasts best-in-class interior volume, best-in-class front headroom and legroom and class-exclusive reclining third row seats*. The Nissan EZ FlexTM Seating System allows the second row to move forward or backward up to 5 1/2 inches for easy access to the back row, even with a child seat installed. When carrying seven passengers, the Pathfinder still accommodates up to 16 cubic feet of cargo.

The 2013 Nissan Altima, launched in June of 2012, was included among KBB.com's 10 Best Family Cars due to its "sharp new look, tech-savvy features, refined driving characteristics and class-leading fuel economy" of 38 mpg. KBB.com gave special mention to Altima's "comfortable seating for five and a host of safety features including blind-spot monitoring and lane-keep assist."

The fifth-generation Altima is equipped with standard Bluetooth® Hands-Free Phone System and Streaming Audio via Bluetooth®. Other innovative technologies offered on Altima include NissanConnectSM and NissanConnectSM Navigation with a suite of Bluetooth® phone connectivity features including hands-free text message integration, Pandora® playback, real-time Google® POI search and more. Easy Fill Tire Alert adds further convenience for drivers and passengers who are protected by next-generation Safety Shield Technologies including Blind Spot Warning (BSW), Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Moving Object Detection (MOD) systems.

Pay the e-quivalent of $1.51 per gallon!

California LEAF drivers pay the e-quivalent of $1.51 per gallon!

Great news! If you drive the all-electric Nissan LEAF in California, and recharge your batteries at home - you're paying about $1.51 to travel as far as you could on a gallon of gas!

That calculation comes from a new federal website, unveiled Tuesday by the Department of Energy, that allows people to compare the costs of driving on electricity versus gasoline. The "eGallon" site is designed to make one of the bigger benefits of EVs -  low and stable fuel costs - easier to understand. The federal government already has a way of comparing the mileage of electric cars. Anyone who has gone shopping for a Nissan Leaf will have seen on the sales sticker a "miles per gallon equivalent" figure developed by the Environmental Protection Agency. The 2013 Leaf, for example, gets 115 MPGe

eGallons have low prices and no spikes!

If you chart the price of gasoline and the eGallon price over time, you'll notice something else. Gasoline prices often spike up and down erratically because they're linked to international oil markets. Events half a world away can drive up the price we pay at the pump. High prices and uncertainty are a heavy burden for American consumers. On the other hand, the cost of electricity is regional and much more stable, so you generally don't have to worry about the wild gyrations seen in gas prices.

The eGallon price arms consumers with a little bit more information to compare the costs of driving an electric car to the cost of gasoline, but it doesn't measure some of the other benefits of driving on electricity. There are significant environmental benefits - particularly as the share of electricity that comes from clean and renewable energy increases - as well as benefits for America's energy security. Instead of spending $1 billion a day on foreign oil, with electric vehicles and other technologies we can power our cars, homes and businesses with American energy.

As electric vehicle technology continues to improve and the cost of the vehicles continues to fall, more and more Americans are making the switch to electric. Check out the Nissan Leaf at Mossy Nissan today - you'll be happy you aren't paying through the nose at the gas pump any more!

Mossy Nissan donates Nissan NV van

Mossy Nissan donates Nissan NV van to Oceanside's 2013 Race Across America cycling team

Mossy Nissan Oceanside has donated a Nissan NV van to the Oceanside team of bicyclists participating in the 2013 Race Across America (RAAM). RAAM, a yearly coast-to-coast bicycle race, serves as a high-profile vehicle for raising money for charitable causes.

RAAM 2013 starts in Oceanside, Calif. on June 15 at the Oceanside Pier and concludes in Annapolis, Md. between June 20 and June 24. The Mossy Nissan NV Van will serve as an emergency vehicle that will follow the Oceanside team of 8 cyclists across the country. The cyclists will race 3000 miles, cross 12 states, 88 counties and 350 communities and climb over 170,000 feet. The team will ride 24 hours a day, sleeping an average of 2 hours a night until the race is completed.

Breaking news! The 2013 Nissan LEAF wins!

Breaking news! The 2013 Nissan LEAF wins Kelley Blue Book's KBB.com's  #1 10 Best Green Car of 2013

After driving and testing every significant "green" vehicle currently on the market, the experts at KBB.com determined the newly redesigned NISSAN LEAF® offers the best balance of value, range and refinement for eco-conscious consumers looking for the greenest car available.

"It was a very difficult choice," KKB officials said of the decision to put the LEAF just ahead of the $100,000+ Tesla Model S sedan, which came in at No. 2. "We went with the NISSAN LEAF because it was so much improved, with a lower price and better battery range," Nerad said. The 2013 Leaf has a range of 75 miles. Its mpge, or miles per gallon gasoline equivalent, ratings for city/highway/combined, respectively, were 130/102/116.
