Heisman winner, Barry Sanders, is one step ahead in this episode of Nissan Heisman House!

Heisman winner, Barry Sanders, is one step ahead in this episode of Nissan Heisman House!

For the third straight year, Nissan and ESPN are giving viewers the chance to imagine what it might be like if the winners of college football's highest individual honor - the Heisman Trophy - lived together in the same house. The Nissan Heisman House returns in time for the start of the college football season and stars 13 Heisman trophy winners, an interactive website and a real-life Heisman House Tour that will travel to college campuses throughout the season. The website and vignettes debuted on August 31 prior to ESPN's Saturday Night Football game on ABC, followed by other ESPN platforms throughout the season.

The Heisman House supports Nissan's long-running sponsorship of the Heisman Memorial Trophy Award. The concept revolves around the online platform,www.NissanHeismanHouse.com, where fans can vote for the next Heisman Trophy winner.

Visitors can once again tour the house, learn about current members and watch behind-the-scenes footage and interviews filmed during the campaign production. Eight of Nissan's highest rated vehicles, including the 2014 Altima, Sentra and the all-new Versa Note, are integrated into the site and the campaign.

"This year we've added some entertaining new elements as we begin another exciting season in support of the good works of the Heisman Trophy Trust," said Jon Brancheau, vice president, Marketing, Nissan North America, Inc. "With the online voting for this season's top Heisman candidates, combined with the fun of seeing past Heisman winners interact with each other, we're going to capture the attention of sports fans across the country."
In addition to the website, the campaign will present six vignettes directed by award-winning director Erich Joiner. This season's Heisman House features returning members Robert Griffin III, Barry Sanders, Ty Detmer, Ron Dayne, Matt Leinart, Troy Smith, Tim Brown, Carson Palmer and Desmond Howard. This year's spots introduce newcomers Sam Bradford, Earl Campbell, Tony Dorsett and Mike Rozier to the roster of housemates. Each unique ad, filmed in Pasadena, Calif., depicts what life might be like if several Heisman trophy-winning players shared a house. From lingering rivalries to generational misunderstandings, each spot explores a different, comical aspect of the fictitious scenario.

In this episode Barry Sanders hams it up for the camera and gets one up on his house-mates!

ACADEMY WINNER GT NISMO GRABs THIRD PLACE FINISH AT ROAD AMERICA!

ACADEMY WINNER GT NISMO GRABs THIRD PLACE FINISH AT ROAD AMERICA!

ELKHART LAKE, Wisc. - At the end of the day on Saturday, having the fastest car on the track and the weekend's two fastest drivers wasn't quite enough to win the fuel strategy battle at the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge (CTSCC) race at Road America, but it sure was close.
"If the race had been one more lap we would have won it," said Rick Kulach of Nissan Motorsports of the team's third place finish. "The winning car ran out of gas on its cool down lap and the second place car was in the same boat. I couldn't be prouder of the Doran team and both drivers, BJ (Zacharias) and Bryan (Heitkotter).  They ran an awfully strong race in the Nissan Z."
Heitkotter, the 2011 GT Academy US champion, put the car on pole Friday and started the race by opening up a two second gap after thirty minutes and fending off all challengers through several yellow flag restarts over the race's first hour.
"The car was a rocket," said Heitkotter. "I hadn't driven it in a year, but slipping into that seat made me realize how Kevin (Doran) and the team continually work to make it better every time out. It's a real pleasure to drive such a well prepared race car."
Veteran racer Zacharias made his way up through the field, but a strategic fuel splash with about an hour to go dropped the car back to 16th. In his charge back to the front he set fastest race lap by almost a full second, besting V8-powered Aston Martins, Mustangs and Camaros in the process.
"The team correctly called that there would be more green flag racing in the second half of the race than in the first, so they brought the Z in for a shot of fuel with about 55 minutes left," said Kulach. "As teams used up their tires and got low on fuel, we started marching up through the field, but the Aston and the Porsche had just enough left at the end. It was an exciting race, no doubt about it."
The same team moves to Kansas Superspeedway next weekend to try to move up two steps on the podium in the next round of the CTSCC.
The Road America race will air on Fox Sports 2 (formerly FUEL) August 17 at 3 p.m. Eastern/2 p.m. Central.

Nissan Innovation Makes Parallel Parking Easy

Nissan Innovation Makes Parallel Parking Easy!

For all those San Diego drivers that hate parallel parking and anything else that requires the reverse gear, Nissan could one day have the car for you.

The leading Japanese carmaker recently unveiled the Pivo 2, a battery-powered concept car with a fully rotating cabin that makes going backwards obsolete, since the driver can turn to face the direction they need to go.

Its wheels also turn 90 degrees, making parking easier.

"With this easy-to-handle car, you can feel comfortable while driving," said Masahiko Tabe, senior manager of the advanced vehicle development group at Nissan Motors.

"You can go everywhere without worrying about your driving skills."

The car is as yet not for commercial sale.

The futuristic, three-seat car also comes with a robotic device that Nissan said monitors the driver's expression using censors and tailors its conversation accordingly.

The device, able to converse in English and Japanese, can help an angry driver overcome road rage or wake you up if you're prone to dozing behind the wheel, the car makers said.

Riding the frog-faced Godzilla lightning

REPRINT OF CAR AND DRIVER'S STORY ON
the Nissan Juke-R
Riding the frog-faced Godzilla lightning.
BY SAM SMITH

Question: When is a Nissan GT-R not a Nissan GT-R? Answer: When it's a fat-fendered piece of lunacy with the face of a Nissan Juke. In other words, when it's a Nissan Juke-R.

There are currently two Juke-Rs in existence: one is left-hand drive, the other right-hand drive. Both are powered by a modified version of the 3.8-liter, twin-turbo V-6 found in the 2011 Nissan GT-R. Both were commissioned by Nissan Europe and built by British motorsports house RML Group. Nissan's Japanese brass reportedly didn't know the cars were being assembled until the first construction videos found their way to the internet. Some 2.3 million YouTube views and a scant 22 weeks later, the world was gifted a 485-hp, two-ton, 5.2-foot-tall monster. Forum fanboys pissed themselves.

Allow us to blow your mind: Nissan claims the Juke-R will bolt to 62 mph in 3.7 seconds.

Allow us to blow your mind again: We have reason to believe that figure is pessimistic.

It takes no small amount of wrench pimpery to stuff a GT-R's powertrain into a crossover the size of a bento box. The rear seats are gone, replaced by an FIA-compliant roll cage. Gone, too, are the Juke's original floor, firewall (a new one lives 3.9 inches to the rear), and headliner. The V-6 supports both air conditioning and power steering; and save for a shortened driveshaft, much of what's here are showroom-ready Godzilla bits. The wheelbase, the length, and the height are shared with the ordinary Juke, but composite fender flares cover 20-inch wheels, stiffer springs and dampers, and the GT-R's wider track. The whole mess looks Animal Planet deadly, like a 'roided-up gibbon or psychotic puffer fish. (Fugu-R?) It is glorious.

We flew to Dubai to drive this beast. After five Nissan-policed, stability-controlled laps around the 2.7-mile Dubai Autodrome, the silly-metaphor well ran dry. Nitrous-powered bar stool? Sure. Chrysler Building with a Saturn 5 suppository? Why not? Loony doesn't even begin to describe it.

The chassis is neat, much like the Manhattan Project was neat. Who knew science could make such violence? There's grinding understeer under throttle in slow corners, neutral drifts in fast ones, impossible grip, body roll out the wazoo. Go deep into the surprisingly soft brake pedal, the back end hops around. High-speed turn-in is abrupt enough to make your coccyx itch. Crosswinds, sneezes, and butterfly wing flaps in China make the Juke's tall body twitch and bob. Still, it's fast, predictable, and remarkably approachable. Nissan claims the top speed is a drag-limited 160 mph, which is 31 mph lower than that of the GT-R, a vehicle that is not shaped like mobile teratoma.

Nissan says the Juke-R's suspension is set up for street use, but we weren't allowed off the track, so that's anyone's guess. It also says, amazingly, that a production R is under consideration-rumor has it several sheiks tried to buy the cars brought to the Middle East, but sheiks will buy anything. No matter. Much like Dubai, the Juke-R is a tangible fantasy, a fancy confection whipped up from thin air and dreams. It exists because it's awesome, and that's good enough for us.

Driving Tips to Keep your Car Cool in the Summer!

Driving Tips to Keep your Car Cool in the Summer!

The San Diego summer sun can get your car interior cooking! When it’s hot outside, getting in your car that’s been parked directly in the sun for hours is never a pleasant experience.

No one wants to be greeted by a sweltering car interior that’s filled with things like scalding seatbelt buckles, sizzling leather seats, plus your steering wheel, and gear shift that are uncomfortably hot to touch.

We put together tips to help keep your parked car cool this summer.

1. Use a sunshade or window visor.
This tried-and-true method of keeping your car cool should be your go-to option to counteract hot interior temps throughout the summer. Put up a sunshade or window visor every time you exit your car for more than a few minutes. Keep it even cooler for long periods by putting a sunshade in your rear window as well.

2. Use a dash cover.
A fabric or upholstered dash cover can go a long way towards making your car's interior more comfortable. You won't feel as overwhelmed by the heat if you don't have to touch hot vinyl surfaces. Dash covers also protect sensitive vinyl from sun damage that can cause cracking and fading.

3. Cover your steering wheel with a hand towel.
Even if you use a sunshade, it's a good idea to cover your steering wheel with a small towel. This will help to keep the contact temperature of your steering wheel down.

4. Whenever possible, park in a shady area.
If you're going to be somewhere for an extended period of time, it's worth it to walk a bit farther in order to park in the shade. You'll be happy to enter a not-so-hot car when you return from your day out.

5. Keep your possessions out of the sun.
Electronics, jewelry, or delicate items that you keep in your car should be stored out of the path of direct sunlight. Try storing your easy to melt items underneath the seat. You can also throw a blanket over your precious possessions.

6. Park in a garage when possible.
Whenever possible, park in a garage. Your car will be out of direct sunlight and will have the benefit of near-constant shade. Even a warm garage beats being parked in the sun all day.

7. Keep windows slightly cracked.
While it's not a good idea to leave your windows all the way open, it is a good idea to leave them slightly cracked. Check to be sure that you can't fit your arm through the crack in your window. Even a small crack will promote ventilation and help to keep your car cool.

8. Purchase a solar-powered fan.
Paired with cracked windows, a solar-powered fan can make your car feel downright pleasant during even the hottest summer days. These simple fans work  to expel hot air from your car. By creating constant air circulation, they lower your car's overall temperature.

9. Throw blankets over your seats.
If your car features vinyl or leather seats, you know just how hot these materials can become when exposed to sunlight and high temperatures. To keep car seats cool, throw blankets over them. When you return to the car, you can place the blankets on the floorboards or toss them in the trunk. Keeping your seats cool will make your car more pleasant on hot summer days.

10. Leave your doors open before getting in.
Before jumping into your hot car, leave the doors open for a few minutes, this will help the hot air exit and the cool air enter.

Here's a visual representation of the 10 Tips to Keep You Car Cool in the Summer:
