Nissan unveils Xmotion Concept Car at 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit

Last Week, Nissan revealed the Xmotion concept, a design exploration for a potentially groundbreaking compact SUV, building on the company’s long history of cutting-edge crossovers and SUVs.

Making its world debut at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the six-passenger, three-row Nissan Xmotion (pronounced "cross motion") concept fuses Japanese culture and traditional craftsmanship with American-style utility and new-generation Nissan Intelligent Mobility technology.

"In the Xmotion concept, we explored the more rugged and powerful side of Nissan Intelligent Mobility. Bold and powerful forms and proportions are, upon closer inspection, contrasted with aspects of traditional Japanese craftsmanship expressed in a contemporary way," said Alfonso Albaisa, senior vice president of global design at Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. "The exterior's combination of western and eastern concepts continues inside the Xmotion, where advanced connectivity and autonomous technologies mix with modern Japanese digital art and cultural craftsmanship. At a glance, Xmotion may appear to have a minimal design language, but a closer look reveals layers of detail that make this concept exceptional."

Signaling the future of Nissan design, the Xmotion concept's stunning exterior features a powerful dynamic presence with understated sculptural beauty, including unique U-shaped highlights and a bold evolution of Nissan's signature V-motion grille.

The visual simplicity of the Xmotion concept exterior is contrasted by the rugged, metal-crafted wheels and all-terrain tire design. Like the rest of vehicle, the mechanical tool-inspired wheels and all-terrain tires coexist as one piece, with the tire tread physically laminated over the 21-inch aluminum-alloy wheels. Additional exterior features include a retractable "rooftop box" and a unique tail light design inspired by Japanese woodwork.

The interior itself was created with the imagery of a river on the floor, with the center console acting as a bridge. The console, the core of the interior design, uses a traditional Japanese architectural wood joinery technique, kanawa tsugi, found in the carpentry used to build religious temples and shrines.

The Xmotion concept's instrument panel design is a modern interpretation of traditional kigumi wood joinery. By using the kigumi structure in the instrument panel and console, the vehicle's interior suggests a robust bone structure, creating a sense of strength and trust.

Inside, the Xmotion concept's crafted interior design symbolizes a Japanese landscape, honoring Nissan's roots while incorporating advanced graphic user interfaces and autonomous driving technologies.

The interior includes a total of seven digital screen portions. Three main displays and left and right end displays span the width of the instrument panel. There's also a "digital room mirror" in the ceiling and a center console display.

The displays and infotainment system can be controlled by gestures and eye movements. Intuitive controls and a voice command system allow drivers to focus on driving, helping them access various information in a smart, easy and safe manner.

With its long wheelbase, with wheels and tires pushed out to the extremes of the corners, the Xmotion concept allows for the creation of a fresh, "4+2" passenger layout. Featuring three rows of side-by-side individual seats, it's designed to provide a perfect space for a young couple, another couple and two children or pets in the third row.

"We envision the Xmotion concept to be a highly functional SUV that can be driven every day, yet can take the owners and friends to a national park or recreation area on a whim," Albaisa said. "With its combination of style and technology, this concept fulfills Nissan's mission of moving people to a better world."

Nissan gives Tesla a Run for its Money with the New ProPILOT Assist technology on the 2018 Rogue and LEAF

Nissan's ProPILOT Assist technology is the foundation for the autonomous vehicles of the future, helping drivers maintain lane control, navigate stop-and-go traffic, maintain a set vehicle speed and maintain a set distance to the vehicle ahead – all with a simple two-button operation. ProPILOT Assist is available on the 2018 Rogue SL grade as part of the Platinum Package.

"Nissan continues to democratize technology, bringing our most advanced systems to our highest volume models, rather than reserving them for our most expensive vehicles," said Michael Bunce, vice president, Product Planning, Nissan North America, Inc. "Customers are delighted when they realize they can afford technology usually reserved for high-end, expensive luxury vehicles (like Tesla). Bringing unexpected value is core to the Nissan brand and our Nissan Intelligent Mobility mission."

Following Rogue, ProPILOT Assist will next launch on the Nissan LEAF in early 2018.

Right now however, the 2018 Rogue is available in three well-equipped grade level: S, SV and SL. As in previous years, Rogue offers exceptional passenger and cargo flexibility with its innovative EZ Flex Seating System™ and Divide-N-Hide® Cargo System. Along with the new ProPILOT Assist, other enhancements to the 2018 Rogue include the addition of standard NissanConnectSM featuring Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ on all trim levels, and revised Midnight Edition Package content.

"The world is facing serious challenges such as climate change, traffic congestion, road fatalities and increasing air pollution. Through Nissan Intelligent Mobility, we are committed to addressing these challenges by making transportation safer, smarter, and more enjoyable," said Bunce. "The new ProPILOT Assist technology is a perfect example of how we can make drivers feel more confident and more connected to their vehicles."

Nissan named 2017 ESPN Awards ‘Manufacturer of the Year.’ Rogue Sport takes ‘Vehicle of the Year’ title

All-new Rogue Sport also named "Best CUV," and TITAN XD earns "Best Diesel Pickup" honors

WINNER WINNER WINNER WINNER

Nissan has been named the winner in four categories in the annual Ruedas ESPN Awards, including the prestigious "Manufacturer of the Year" and "Vehicle of the Year" titles, at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show.

The new 2017 Rogue Sport, the latest addition to Nissan's popular crossover SUV lineup, took home the hardware in both the "Vehicle of the Year" and "Best CUV" categories. The TITAN XD, the flagship of Nissan's hardworking personal and commercial pickup lineup, won for "Best Diesel Pickup Truck." Winners are selected by a jury of industry experts in 14 categories, along with the "Vehicle of the Year."

"Nissan is honored to be recognized for these four awards by Ruedas ESPN, especially with their nod to the exciting new Rogue Sport," said Dan Mohnke, senior vice president, Sales & Marketing and Operations, Nissan Division U.S., Nissan North America, Inc. in accepting the awards from Jaime Florez, director, Ruedas ESPN. "The Hispanic market, and Los Angeles in particular, has been a key driver of Nissan's sales success in recent years – so it is an added pleasure to receive the honors here at the Los Angeles Auto Show."

"The portfolio of Nissan vehicles available in the U.S. market is today better than ever. Not only are their products the right ones in every segment, but also the quality of their vehicles is second to none," said Florez. "For these and many other reasons, Nissan North America is 2017 Ruedas ESPN Manufacturer of the Year."

ROGUE SPORT

The new Rogue Sport shares many of the design, utility and technology attributes that have made Rogue Nissan's best-selling vehicle in the United States, but is slightly smaller, sportier and more affordable for younger, urban SUV buyers. These buyers are looking for much more space than a compact sedan, while still seeking the maneuverability and fun-to-drive feel that Rogue Sport delivers.

Like Rogue, the 2017 Rogue Sport offers a comprehensive suite of Nissan Intelligent Safety Shield technologies. The list includes Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Warning (BSW), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Intelligent Lane Intervention (I-LI).

TITAN

The 2017 Nissan TITAN XD Diesel offers the effortless towing and hauling of larger, more expensive heavy-duty trucks – including an available maximum towing capacity of 12,640 pounds and maximum payload capacity of 2,420 pounds (when properly equipped) – yet has the fuel-efficiency and affordability closer to a half-ton pickup. The TITAN XD Diesel is anchored by a powerful Cummins® 5.0L V8 Turbo Diesel rated at 310 horsepower and a hefty 555 lb-ft of torque.

Like all 2017 TITAN full-size pickups, the TITAN XD is covered by "America's Best Truck Warranty"2 – featuring bumper-to-bumper coverage of 5 years/100,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Nissan showcases 7 ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’-inspired vehicles at the LA Auto Show

In honor of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Nissan partnered up with the beloved franchise to bring their fans seven Star Wars-themed concept vehicles. This fleet premiered at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show.

"We're back this year collaborating with Lucasfilm and the artists at Industrial Light & Magic to create these amazing concept vehicles across some of our best-selling models," said Jeremy Tucker, vice president, Marketing Communications & Media, Nissan North America, Inc. "These show vehicles were created for our fans, and will be unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show and shared across the country in regional auto shows over the next several months."

Star Wars: The Last Jedi themes were created for each vehicle and were developed by Lucas films designers who incorporated the expressive lines of some of Nissan's most popular models– Rogue, Rogue Sport, Altima, Maxima, and TITAN.

2018 Nissan Altima – Special Forces TIE Fighter

Used by the First Order's elite Special Forces pilots, the TIE Fighter is a strike fighter. This has been appropriately recreated using Nissan's best-selling sedan, the Altima. Featuring custom body enhancements that bring it in line with a member of the First Order's fleet, the vehicle's stand out feature has to be its cockpit window. It brings the multi-paned look of the Special Forces TIE fighter to the Altima's windshield. Additionally, custom wheels that each feature the centerpiece of a TIE Fighter wing, a full-body wrap and speakers at each corner that recreate the iconic TIE Fighter and blaster sounds, all help to bring the dual-winged spacecraft to life.

2018 Nissan Maxima – Kylo Ren

This show vehicle draws from the existing aggressive design of the Maxima to transform it into a truly “sinister sedan”. Using the Maxima’s V-motioned front design, the designers were able to merge this with a block of milled aluminum to create Kylo Ren's distinctive black and silver facemask. The custom front lower spoiler, impactful hood and body are all also coated with “exact character color-matching specifications.” As a final touch to help complete the look, a set of red signature headlights and underbody lighting were added and pulse at random – designed to mimic Kylo Ren's crossguard lightsaber.

2018 Nissan Maxima – Kylo Ren's TIE Silencer

The Nissan Maxima is engineered for speed and sharp handling capability, this makes it the perfect car to replicate Kylo Ren's TIE Silencer. As one of the new crafts to appear in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, this one-off TIE Silencer is fully designed to Kylo's specifications. The concept car comes equipped with laser cannons and missile launchers attached to the vehicle's distinct wings, which stretch the entire length of the car. Red lighting in the grille and underneath, along with sound effects, pulled directly from the movie, help to give this concept an “amazing true-to-life feel.”

2018 Nissan Maxima – Captain Phasma

Also joining the ranks of the First Order is this menacing Maxima, designed in the image of Captain Phasma, the strong female character in the film. The designers have covered the Maxima in high-gloss silver armor to help create the unmistakable mask. To further its intimidating look, a red accent line with ground effects runs the length of the car. The Captain Phasma Maxima was built as a celebration of female strength; and fitting in with this theme, “Nissan's Maxima team is led by a female engineer, the designer for this vehicle was a female from ILM, the vehicle's brand director is a female and the vehicle was created to celebrate one of the toughest female warriors in the galaxy.”

2018 Nissan Rogue – Poe Dameron's X-wing with BB-8

Leading the New Republic Starfleet is Poe Dameron's X-wing starfighter. Building on the dependable Nissan Rogue’s foundation, massive wings were fixed on to both sides of the vehicle. The T-70 X-wing also features a pair of illuminating thrusters, and quad laser cannons integrated into each wingtip, these help to make the craft appear ready for action. Sitting on top of the vehicle is a life-size BB-8 astromech droid, complete with functioning lights, motion and sound. To tie it all together, a rugged tire and wheel package is used to draw “parallels to the rugged valor of the Resistance.”

2018 Nissan Rogue Sport – A-wing

The A-wing is quick and nimble, which makes it a perfect fit for the Rogue Sport it is built on.  Created to perfectly mimic the A-wing's design, the vehicle features top-mounted fins and illuminated dual thrusters at the rear. Its blue wheels are painted to match the craft's accents, while laser cannons at the side of the vehicle, along with a detailed wrap that display battle damage, prove that this is a vehicle ready for almost anything.

2018 Nissan TITAN AT-M6

What do you get when you pair the largest vehicle in the First Order's arsenal with the biggest vehicle (and the highest standard horsepower in its segment) in Nissan's fleet? A perfect match! Nissan fittingly created the AT-M6, from Star Wars: The Last Jedi, show car replica with a Nissan TITAN. Coincidentally, it also happened to be the biggest unveiling (in physical size) at this year's LA Auto Show. With features like a massive megacaliber cannon, fixed on its truck bed, and a custom body wrap, the show truck is definitely reminiscent of the film's massive First Order walker. Additionally, the wheels received hydro-dip graphics, intended to mimic a walker's leg joints, while a 1-foot lift kit was applied to promote its destructive appearance. As a final way to bring the vehicle to life, designers installed a sound system capable of mimicking the walker's ground-stomping movements; an 18-inch bed-mounted subwoofer with a companion surround sound system produces a "planet-thumping 5,000 watts”, this is said “to closely capture the reverberation of a First Order walker.”

New skill for Amazon Alexa from Nissan lets customers talk to their car from the comfort of home!

Don't risk burning what is in the oven; don't dump out your bag in search of a key fob – you can now use your voice to remote-start your Nissan. Available later this month, a new skill for Amazon Alexa (powered by NissanConnectSM Services) will allow some Nissan owners a new way to interact with their vehicles.

There are now over 25,000 Alexa skills, and Nissan's connected car skill will be one of the newest. Riding on the popularity of Alexa, Nissan uses already-available features within NissanConnect Services to enable the new skill on some of its new and existing vehicles.

"Intelligent integration means helping our customers even when they are not behind the wheel," said Dan Teeter, director, Vehicle Connected Services, Nissan North America, Inc. "We are about bringing unexpected innovations to customers, and are excited to offer this technology to both existing and new Nissan owners."

Later this month, users will be able to find and use the new skill, called "NissanConnect Services," free of charge under the connected car category within the Amazon Skills Store.

It will be available on certain model year 2016, 2017, 2017.5 and 2018 Nissan vehicles equipped with NissanConnect Services telematics. Amazon's Alexa integration will require owners to have an active subscription to NissanConnect Services and a valid Nissan Owner Portal account, although the NissanConnect Services app does not need to be running to use the service.

NissanConnect Services and integration with the new Alexa skill, will be available on the following vehicles at launch, with more to come:

Nissan plans to expand the technology to other models in the future, including the new 2018 Nissan LEAF through NissanConnect EV and Services. Additionally, model year 2011 – 2017 LEAF owners will be able to check battery status, manage remote charging and cool down or warm up the vehicle's interior using the new skill through the NissanConnect EV and Services Skill.

How the NissanConnect Services skill works

Once enabled and linked to a valid Nissan Owners Portal account with a compatible Nissan vehicle, owners can use voice commands to remote lock/unlock, honk the horn, flash the lights and start or stop the engine depending on the model.

For example, owners can say, "Alexa, ask NissanConnect Services to start my Murano" or "Alexa, ask NissanConnect Services to lock the doors of my GT-R." Moments later, Alexa will confirm the request and the vehicle will respond to the command.

A 4-digit pin will be required to send certain commands to the vehicle, such as remote start, for added security. Additionally, owners can customize the name of their vehicle.

For more information on the complete Nissan vehicle lineup and available advanced safety, security and driver assistance technologies, visit one of seven Mossy Nissan locations or shop online now.

7 Tips to Prepare Your Car in Case of an Emergency

Would your car be ready if you had to leave at a moment’s notice? If you were stranded in your car, would you be prepared?

Emergencies and natural disasters come in a variety of forms, and you don’t always have time to prepare. It is important to remember to perform regular maintenance and do-it-yourself checks on your car, as well as have a stocked emergency kit. This gives you peace of mind to know that your vehicle is always ready for the task.

It is recommended to check the following to make sure your car is ready for the unexpected:

  • Tire Tread:
Tire tread helps your car grip the road. Having low tire tread is especially dangerous when driving in wet, flood-like, snowy or icy conditions. Check your tread easily with a penny.

  • Tire Pressure:
Pressure that is too low or too high can affect gas mileage, tread wear and vehicle performance. Check your tires once a month when they are still cold, using the PSI (pounds per square inch) number located on the driver door or in the owner’s manual.

  • Fluids Check:
Check your car’s fluids once a month or take a peek when you fill the gas tank. Top off fluids, such as your oil and coolant, and visit a technician if you suspect a leak.

  • Belts:
A broken engine belt can literally stop you in your tracks. Look for signs of excessive wear or looseness.

  • Brakes:
Your vehicle’s brakes are very important for safety; make sure they are ready in any condition. Have your brakes inspected by a technician once a year, and be aware of any signs of brake trouble, including noise, pulling and vibration while braking.

  • Battery:
Even in a non-emergency, it is stressful when your car does not start. Extreme temperatures, such as summer and winter, can wear the battery. A technician can test that the battery is charging at the correct rate. If your battery is three years or older, it may need to be replaced.

  • Emergency Kit:
Have an emergency kit ready to go in your car. A vehicle emergency kit should include the following:

    • Jumper cables
    • Road atlas or map
    • First-aid kit
    • Flashlight with extra batteries
    • Water
    • Non-perishable food
    • Blankets

Make sure your car is in tip top shape so you can be prepared for anything! Schedule an appointment at one of our 7 convenient Mossy Nissan locations in San Diego County today!

Top 5 Car Interior Cleaning Tips!

Keeping a car clean inside is probably one of the most difficult things to do. There are tons of tiny cracks, vents, and other hard to reach places. Plus, there’s that area under the seat where items go to get lost forever. Fortunately, we have compiled a list of 5 incredible hacks to keep your car interior looking it’s best. People may even think you got it detailed!

1. EASY CLEAN FLOOR MATS

Instead of spending money replacing your floor mats, try just washing them instead! Spray some stain remover and throw them in your washing machine. It’s just that easy.

2. LEATHER SEAT REPLENISHING TIP

Instead of buying leather cleaner, or special upholstery wipes, use olive oil!! It is less expensive, and it’s totally natural. Simply apply a small amount of oil onto a clean rag and rub it in circles on your leather. Be sure to apply sparingly, as a lot goes a long way!

3. BUGS BE GONE

There’s no need to rush to the car wash to get rid of all those dead bugs off your windshield after a long road trip. All you need is a few dryer sheets! Simply wet it, and go to work! The dryer sheets work magically, and all of the bugs come off easier than they would with a water hose. Plus, they don’t have to be new dryer sheets, a used one works just as good.

4. PIECE OF CAKE CUP HOLDER CLEANING

If the cup holder’s are the dirtiest part of your car, prevent the mess from ever happening! Place a silicone cupcake liner in the bottom of your cup holder. This will catch any crumbs, spills, and keep your cup holders from getting sticky. Just throw them in the dishwasher when it’s time to clean!

5. DOG-GONE HAIR

Instead of spending hours vacuuming up all of the animal hair on your seats, use a squeegee and a spray bottle instead. Mist the spray bottle (full of water) on the seats and use the squeegee to loosen the hair. All that’s left is to vacuum up what’s left!

Want to leave car detailing up to the experts? Schedule a service appointment at any of our 7 Mossy Nissan locations.

NISSAN TITAN WINS TRUCK TREND 2017 PICKUP TRUCK OF THE YEAR AWARD!

The totals have been tallied, the votes counted, and ultimately, there can be only one. For 2017, it’s the 2017 Nissan Titan. The All-New Ground-Up Design, First-Class Amenities, and Incredible Feature Set Lead Nissan Titan to Top the Field of Eight contenders.

TRUCK TREND’s Pickup Truck of the Year award program is an invitation-only shootout that is only open to all-new or significantly revised pickup trucks for the upcoming model year. For 2017, the field of vehicles included eight entries from six companies and consisted of one variant from each company’s eligible product line.

“With the launch of the 2017 Titan, Nissan has set out to redefine itself as a force in the pickup market,” says TRUCK TREND Editor Jason Gonderman. “By combining a richly appointed interior and deep feature set with a stout drivetrain and respectable capabilities, Nissan has reemerged as a player in the ½-ton pickup market. Combined with an industry-best 5-year, 100,000-mile warranty and low cost of entry compared to the competition, Nissan looks to have found the winning combination with the all-new Titan.”

The Nissan Titan won TRUCK TREND’s 2017 Pickup Truck of the Year award only after completing a demanding weeklong test comprised of more than 1,200 miles of performance testing, hauling, towing, fuel economy calculation, and off-roading—all important disciplines in which truck owners expect their vehicle to be competent.

Over the course of the 1,200-mile test, the experts had ample time with each vehicle to form qualified opinions regarding important factors such as interior ergonomics, seat comfort, technology usability, build quality, and features and benefits of each truck, while also logging fuel usage to gauge real-world economy throughout the diverse evaluation.

With testing completed, the staff at TRUCK TREND crunched the data and found the Nissan Titan led in two out of seven scoring categories: Highway (15%) and Empirical (20%), while placing solidly in the remaining categories of Interior (10%), Exterior (10%), Off-Road (15%), Towing and Hauling (15%), and Functionality (15%). Ultimately, it was the Nissan Titan, tested in the Platinum Reserve trim, which scored the highest number of points and earned the nod from TRUCK TREND’s jurors.

“TRUCK TREND’s Pickup Truck of the Year award is not determined around a conference room table,” says Sean P. Holman, content director for TEN: The Enthusiast Network’s Truck and Off-Road Group. “This is a real-world evaluation of pickups as seen through the eyes of truck experts and enthusiasts. Anchored in data, the test is conducted across many disciplines by staffers who drive and evaluate trucks every day with a goal of determining which vehicle offers the best pickup truck experience for the money. TRUCK TREND prides itself as being the credible, go-to authority for light-truck reviews and information for the industry.”

The strong power and throaty sound of the 390-hp 5.6L Endurance V-8 won unanimous praise from the judges, giving the Titan ample power delivered through a seven-speed automatic transmission. The V-8 engine note was there when you wanted it, and quiet when you were cruising, never intruding on the comfortable, well-equipped cabin. Top it off with AMERICA’S BEST TRUCK WARRANTY – 5 YEARS/100,000MILES BUMPER TO BUMPER! 5 Year/100,000 Mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty that surpasses all competitors you can be sure that your TITAN will always be ready for the job.

What propelled Nissan’s new full-size to the top was its combination of capability, comfort, value, and all-around practicality as a daily driver. In our eyes it represented the best overall truck experience for the money. For those reasons, we’re proud to name the Nissan Titan as Truck Trend’s 2017 Pickup Truck of the Year.
