Glow-in-the-dark Nissan LEAF breaks Guinness World Records

LONDON - Nissan has broken the Guinness World Records title for the Largest Glow-in-the-Dark Painting by using the glow-in-the-dark Nissan LEAF to paint a 207.68m2 self-portrait of the 100-percent electric car. The painting, which depicts the front of a Nissan LEAF, was created by maverick motoring artist Ian Cook of Popbangcolour. Usually seen working with radio-controlled cars, Cook was quick to accept Nissan's challenge to work on this super-sized project, using the full-size Nissan LEAF to spread strategically placed pools of glow-in-the-dark paint across the canvas with its tires to create the image.

This Little Note is All Grown Up in 2015!

When Nissan brought me its most affordable hatchback, the 2014 Versa Note, earlier this year I found myself impressed with its nimbleness, abundant interior space great features despite its bargain price. In general I recommended it as a great bargain runabout. For 2015, Nissan has the new sportier looking Versa Note SR, and the automaker sent it my way for a week of testing (read: flogging). The new car has revised visual cues inside and out, and the equipment list is a little different than my last Versa. Best yet, it's even a little cheaper than the last one I tested as well.

How to End Backseat Battles

How to End Backseat Battles!

There's nothing more frustrating than trying to get from place to place in your busy day with your children bickering in the backseat. Here are some tips to create a smooth ride for everyone!

  1. Separate:  If you can keep siblings a bit separated there is a good chance less aggravation will take place. If you don't have the space to keep them apart, draw an imaginary line in space and explain you expect everyone to respect it.
  2. Distract: Give each child something to do in the car, keeping safety in mind, choosing a toy or a book to look at can reduce the stressful interactions.
  3. Play: With a toy car and some figurines, act out all the wrong things to do and all the right things to do on a car ride.
  4. Listen: On longer trips, children enjoy listening to audio books!
  5. Involve: Invite the children to be a part of the solution.. ask "how can we make this ride OK for everyone?"

The Nissan NV200 Compact Cargo Van

Big things really do come in small packages!

Imagine the power and durability of a commercial moving van combined with the compact size and maneuverability of a minivan. That's what drivers can expect from the new Nissan NV200 Compact Cargo Van. This Nissan NV200 is built from the ground up to give you the flexibility to keep up with the fast-paced business environment..

Is the Nissan NV200 Compact Cargo Van right for your business?

Just look at these stats!

Length

This van measures 186.2 inches from end-to-end. It's 5.6 inches longer than the Ford Transit. It's long enough to haul some serious cargo and small enough to get in and out of loading zones, downtown business districts and busy commercial office spaces.

Width

Of course the design team at Nissan knows that length is just one measure of a cargo van. That's why they made this NV200 wide enough to carry a standard 40-by-48-inch commercial pallet in the cargo area.

Accessibility

This NV200 comes with dual sliding doors standard and the split rear doors open as wide as 180 degrees. That means easy access to your cargo from either side of the van, and the ability to unload from the rear of the van as well.

Cargo Capacity

The Nissan NV200 can carry about 1500 pounds. It also features optional floor-mounted hooks to secure your cargo. If you're not hauling pallets, the cargo area features a number of integrated mounting points for shelving units -or anything you can think of mounting!

Suspension & Horsepower

The Nissan NV200's rear suspension is leaf-sprung-like on a real commercial truck, and the NV200's 2.0 liter inline 4-cylinder engine puts out a respectable 140 horses. That's plenty of power to keep your business on the move!

Flexibility and other great features

Like all of Nissan's commercial vans, the Nissan NV200 can be configured with an amazing array of interior features. It can also be customized to be a rolling workshop or an office on wheels with a real desk!

The NV200 is rolling in to Mossy Nissan showrooms!

The Nissan NV200 is now available in San Diego at Mossy Nissan locations in El Cajon, Kearny Mesa and Oceanside. Mossy Nissan also offers great commercial vehicle financing! Don't wait! Nissan’s Blind Spot Warning system takes on Honda Accord’s Lanewatch™

According to a recent survey(1) almost six in ten respondents blame blind spots for accidents or near-collisions. Luckily, for 2013, Nissan developed not one, but three advanced technologies help Altima drivers avoid a collision: Blind Spot Warning, Lane Departure Warning and Moving Object Detection. These three features, usually reserved for more expensive vehicles, take advantage of Altima's redesigned, next-generation RearView Monitor. A new wide-angle rearview camera, mounted in the license plate area, offers an expanded rear view so no extra sensors are needed to provide these additional capabilities. (These three innovations are available on Altima 2.5 SL and 3.5 SL as part of the Technology Package.)  Today, let's look at Blind Spot Warning Feature and how it compares to Honda's LaneWatch system.

Nissan's Blind Spot Warning uses the Nissan Altima's wide-angle rearview camera and advanced image processing technology to scan the vehicle's blind spots. It alerts the driver with audible and visual warnings if there is a vehicle in a blind spot area.

The Honda Accord, in comparison, uses two separate systems to provide driver protection. Unlike the Nissan Altima, neither of these two systems provide the visual or audible warning that alert the driver that a vehicle is the blind spot.

The first system is Honda's LaneWatch camera. Unlike Nissan's wide-angle view monitor, which is mounted in the rear of the car, Honda's LaneWatch™" camera is mounted only on one side of the car-on the passenger-side outside mirror to display an expanded rear view. Honda designed LaneWatch™ to activate ONLY when the right turn signal is activated or a button on the stalk is pushed.

The second system is not a system at all - basically, driver side warning is almost non-existent. All you get is an outside mirror with a convex strip on the outer edge. Just how effective is this mirror? A car reviewer from the website ExtremeTech.com(2)  said "On the Accords I drove the convex mirror edge didn't seem to expand the view very much."

It's easy to see that Honda's unbalanced blind spot detection and lack of passive warning system simply does not compare to the Nissan Altima's state of the art Blind Spot Warning. These days driver safety seems to be a "blind spot" for Honda.

(1)  http://media.ford.com/article_display.cfm?article_id=36969] "Drivers acknowledge their limitations: Nearly 50 percent have fallen asleep while driving or know someone who has; nearly six in 10 blame blind spots for accidents or near collisions and nearly four in 10 of those surveyed fear parallel parking"

Nissan NV vs. Mercedes Sprinter

Nissan's work van does more for your money!

In the battle of the commercial vehicles, the new Nissan NV work van is quickly making a name for itself. Electricians, plumbers, delivery drivers and workers of all types from all over San Diego are finding the Nissan NV to be a reliable, rugged, versatile work van. It's also extremely customizable! Owners can get custom order their Nissan NV with an array of shelves, bins, rack and containers. The NV can even be configured to be everything from a passenger van, to a delivery vehicle or even a rolling office - complete with desk workspace! This gives the Nissan NV big advantages over competing commercial vehicles- including the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, previously known as the Dodge Sprinter.

Let's look at how a base model Nissan NV Standard roof SV 2500 out performs the Mercedes Sprinter 2500 Standard roof in several key areas:

Pricing

With a base model MSRP starting at around $11,000 MORE than the base model Nissan NV* the Mercedes will definitely make a big dent in your wallet. That means you'll be putting in plenty of overtime to pay for that fancy Mercedes hood emblem!

Handling

The Nissan NV Passenger has a significantly smaller turning radius than the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, allowing you to much more easily maneuver in and out of tight spots.

Performance

When it comes to horsepower, the Nissan NV will be able to pull heavier loads than the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. The Sprinter's 3.0L engine puts out a paltry 188 hp. The Nissan NV Cargo's powerful 4.0L engine delivers 261 hp., and the NV Cargo's optional 5.6L V-8 engine provides a whopping 317 hp.

Dimensions

The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is a bit longer than the NV, making it more difficult to park. So, if you go with the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter as your commercial vehicle choice, you may be circling the block looking for a parking spot more often than with the Nissan NV Cargo.

Turning Radius

For such a large van, the Nissan NV has a very small turning radius! On a fairly narrow street, the Nissan NV can do a complete 180 without having to back up, impressive considering the NV boasts a 146.1-inch wheelbase and measures more than 20 feet from stem to stern.

Features

Here's how a well-equipped Nissan 2013 NV3500 HD SV High Roof Cargo Van compares with a top of the line (but much more expensive!) 2013 Mercedes Sprinter High Roof van.
